Katsushika Hokusai

The works of Hokusai are mostly associated with the history and culture of Japan for his works document some of the island’s many beautiful landscapes and natural wonders. Hokusai is one of the very select artists who did not reach the peak of their artistic prowess until later in their life. In his case, he was producing his best works when he reached the ripe age of 64 till his death at age 89. He often regarded to himself as “the mad painter” due to his eccentricity and failing vision. He was known to have travelled a lot throughout Japan and in the process moved his dwelling place 93 times. His art numbers 30,000 pieces in total in all forms, shapes and sizes.
