Jan Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer or more commonly known as Jan Vermeer is considered to be one of the best Dutch Painters of the Dutch Golden Age. He was baptized on October 31, 1632 to Reynier and Digna Vermeer. His father was a middle-class silk weaver who eventually bought a sizably large inn named the “Mechelen” after a Belgian town. The painter is known to have spent the whole of his life in the town of Delft where he was born which was also reason for his being unknown outside the said town. It was only when an art critic by the name of Joseph Thore happened to come upon the painting “The View of Delft” did his work began to surface and become recognized by artists and art lovers from around the world. The critic fell in love with his work and conducted an extensive research drive to know more about the artist who made the work and managed to come up with a list of 66 pieces that are now attributed to the artist
