Georges Seurat
Seurat was born on December 2, 1859 to a well off family in Paris where his father was a Legal official and mother a native Parisian. He was first educated as a sculptor under the sculptor Justin Lequien and from 1878 till the next year he attended the Escole des Beaux-Arts. He then served for a year in the Brest Military Academy before returning to Paris in 1880. Once back in his hometown, he used a studio that he shared with two of his fellow students before moving into a studio of his own. In his studio he dedicated two years of his time into the mastering of the art of drawing in black and white producing his first major work in 1883 on a huge canvas titled “Bathing at Asnieres”. His painting was denied by the Paris Salon which led him to steer clear of such establishments turning his attention to getting affiliation with more independent artists.
