About Francisco de Goya

Francisco de Goya is a Spanish painter who was famous for his satires and portraits. He was also known having worked as a court painter to Charles III, Charles IV and Ferdinand VII of Spain. He was a gifted artist whose various works of art illustrated contemporary historical turmoil and persuaded key 19 th and 20 th – century painters. Goya was frequently called “the first of the moderns” for the daring style of his paintings, the evocative satire of his etchings and his conviction that the artist's vision is more significant than tradition. His adamant depictions of his times signify the commencement of 19 th century realism.
