Egon Leo Adolf Schiele was born on June 12, 1890 in Tulln on the Danube to a father who worked the Austrian State Railways as a station master and his mother, Marie was from Krumau, Bohemia. He went to a school that was run by a certain Stift Klosterneuberg where his art teacher saw and encouraged his artistic talent. His father died of syphilis when he was only 15 that had him made into a ward by his uncle who was disappointed at his lack of interest in academics. His uncle also saw his potential and passion for the arts that in 1906 he was allowed to apply in the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna where Gustav Klimt once studied. Also in the same year, the young Egon was sent by his teachers to the more traditional school Akademie der Bildenden Kunste where he grew in frustration at the conservatism of the faculty and curriculum that in 1907 he looked for Gustav Klimt to seek mentorship to further his art skills.
