Edward Hopper

Hopper is considered as one of the landmarks of American Realism art, that is characterized by isolation, melancholy and loneliness. He shifted to painting at the New York School of the Arts in 1901 where he was mentored by Robert Henri till 1906. Robert Henri is a foremost advocates of the pop movement that tells his students to “make stir in the world” through their art. The school has produced many a great artists and was later to become the Ashcan School of American Art. He made three trips to Europe where he witnessed works of prominent contemporary artists using Spanish and French Cubism, but he was little influenced by these styles and retained the idealism of the realist painters of the time.
