Biography
Edvard Munch, was born on the 12th of December 1863 in Loten, Norway to a Christian Munch, a military doctor and Catherine her mother. His troubled and distressed life begins with the death of his mother in1868, followed by his sister Sophie in1877. He entered the Technical College in 1879 and hopes of becoming an engineer but education was intermittent at best due to recurring illness. As a result of his frequent illnesses he left the college to become a painter in1880. He then enrolls at the Royal School of Art and Design where he paints his first self-portrait while under the supervision of Julius Middlethun a sculptor in 1881. He begins work on The Sick Child in 1885 and is accused in 1886 of being an anarchist due to his links to “Christiania’s Bohemia” a very controversial group of the time.
