Pissaro's Enduring Passion
His art only began to get the acceptance and sponsorship he needed in his 74th year with them finally getting high prices in the art market due to a newer generation of artists who were coming into the world that accepted his genius and even idolized him. Even through all the poverty and criticism that the artist suffered in his lifetime, he never lost his passion and drive in his natural subjects. Nature was one of his main driving factors which he captured and expressed so diligently in his works of art. The artist died on November 13th, 1903 in Le Havre, France, survived by sons Lucien, Georges, Felix, Ludovic-Rodolphe, Paul-Emile and his only daughter Jeanne. Two of his great grandchildren, Joachim Pissarro is currently the Head Curator of Drawing and Painting at the New York City’s Museum of Modern art and Leila is a successful painter who resides in England following in their great grandfather’s footsteps as members of the art world.
